Amateur hits hole-in-one with first shot at ISPS Handa New Zealand Open

Japanese amateur Shoukun Yamashita has made the perfect start to the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open being played at Millbrook Resort and The Hills near Queenstown.

Yamashita made golf look like an easy game when he holed out with his first shot of the day at The Hills this morning.

Japanese amateur Shoukun Yamashita delighted after his hole in one with his first shot of the day on the opening day of the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open in Queenstown.

Playing in a group with Korean professionals Youngan Song and Hyun Woo Ryu, Yamashita’s ace came with a rescue club on the No 10 142m par three.

In doing so he has secured a free entry into next year’s centenary event courtesy of a promise made by tournament chairman John Hart on the eve of the tournament.

Meanwhile Australian Open Champion Cameron Davis leads on five-under after 10 holes at The Hills among the early scorers on the opening round. He leads a group including Kiwi professionals Josh Geary and Ryan Chsinall, Australians Harrison Endycott and Aron Price and Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino, all on four-under par.

The ISPS Handa New Zealand Open begins on Thursday with a round alternately at Millbrook Resort and The Hills before a cut to the top 60 players plus ties to contest the final two rounds at Millbrook Resort.
